This session will provide an overview of the recently published United States Core Data for Interoperability Version 4 (USCDI v4) and its relationship to HL7® FHIR® US Core and C-CDA, the health IT standards which enable exchange of USCDI data. This session will discuss the interrelated processes of updating each of these standards in a way that promotes adoption of these newer standards while minimizing development and implementation burden.

USCDI v4 Overview
ONC published USCDI v4 in July 2023, adding 20 new data elements and one new data class that reflect the ONC’s priorities for USCDI expansion that include assessment for industry-wide implementation impact.

The US Core implementation guides and profiles have become the foundation for all US Realm FHIR implementation guides. US Core IG annual releases also reflect changes included in new versions of USCDI.

C-CDA and C-CDA Companion Guide
As with the US Core implementation guide updates, the annual release of the C-CDA Companion Guide contains changes and additions to reflect newest version of USCDI. Its development is tightly coordinated with that of US Core. The C-CDA Companion Guide and C-CDA will be merged and balloted together in January 2024 using a new publication method.
