I pursued an employment opportunity with HHS through the Pathways to Public Service program because of the many opportunities they offer. I am currently working towards a degree in Psychology with minors in public health and neuroscience. I have a strong interest in public health and am excited to learn more about the subject with HRSA. HRSA is the perfect place for me to immerse myself in the public health field, given its wide approach to addressing health disparities and improving healthcare services across diverse populations.
What excites me the most about the Pathways to Public Service internship is the many connections I will make, the skills and knowledge I will learn, and the experience of working not only by myself but as a team. I know there is so much to learn and am so excited to grow in my career.
My coursework at Elon University has helped me develop my organization skills, taught me how to stay organized, the importance of asking questions, and learning how to complete the tasks that I’m assigned effectively. With my minor in public health, I am excited to learn more about HRSA’s programs and see how they work in real-world scenarios.
The Pathways program has been a huge help in figuring out my federal career with HHS. I've learned a lot about how the government works and how HRSA operates, including the different offices and divisions within the agency.I have had several supportive mentors who have shared their experiences and provided great advice. I have had the opportunity to explore what interests me and participate in trainings to elevate my proficiency in Excel, PowerPoint, and Microsoft Word. I am excited to use the tools I have learned this summer in my studies and any future job opportunities.
