Why did you pursue an employment opportunity with HHS through the Pathways to Public Service program?

I was interested in this opportunity with HHS as it offers a hands-on experience in the federal sector while contributing to the nation’s public health infrastructure. I wanted to be apart of an organization where I could apply my skills to meaningful work where innovation can directly impact healthcare delivery.

What most excites you about this Pathways to Public Service internship?

I am eager to contribute to initiatives that improve data-driven decision making in health IT, as well as collaborate with experts in the field while gaining exposure to projects and public health policy.

How has your university/major prepared you for the work you will be doing within your agency?

During both of my degrees and my current certificate program, I have been able to gain a comprehensive understanding on my knowledge of healthcare quality and efficiency. The combination of public health and health information systems have equipped me with a skillset that helped me prepare to contribute to ASTP/ONC’s efforts in improving healthcare through technology.

How did the Pathways program help you navigate your federal career with HHS? (Tell us about mentors you had, events you attended, resources shared, interviews, and the hiring process)

The Pathways program provided me with valuable networking opportunities and connected me with mentors who offer valuable insights, proper resources, and guidance helping me understand the nuances of working in the federal systems.

Additionally, the program provided clarity on the federal hiring process, making it easier for application and to interview with the team. The structured support and real-world experience I’ve gained through Pathways have been essential in building a strong foundation for my career at HHS.
